Former Knockers leading Central Catholic into State Quaterfinals
Several former Knockers are leading Central Catholic’s charge into the quarterfinals of the IHSA state playoffs. Quaterback/Safety Jake Baughman (3), Running Back/Cornerback Brett Segobiano (23), Fullback/Linebacker Ryan Zitkus (44) and Defensive End/Tight End Kyle Connor (82) and Guard Griffin Fox (73) have helped the Saints knock off top ranked Greenville and Canton en route to setting a new class 4A record for most points in an playoff game. The Saints record-setting performance in the playoffs includes 7 total touchdowns by Segobiano who broke a playoff record for most touchdowns in a single game previously held by Knocker coach Brian Segobiano and has joined the 1,000 yard rushing club in addition to being ranked 4th in the sate in return yards. Backfield counterpart Ryan Zitkus has continued an all-state caliber season closing in the 1,000 yard mark with a rushing and receiving touchdown in the playoffs in addition to anchoring the Saints defense. Baughman has been the catalyst to the jump start in the Saints’ offense since taking over the starting quarterback role. In two playoff games he has thrown for 5 touchdowns and rushed for 3 more. Starting guard Griffin Fox has paved the way for the offensive output. Kyle Connor, the Corn Belt Conference regular season sack leader, has continued a dominating performance along the defensive line.
Josh Kirschenbaum, former Knocker, looks to take hold of signal calling duties for defending Big 12 champion Normal Community.
Former Knocker and current Illinois State long snapper Chris Highland has been named preseason First Team All-American. Highland has a perfect snap record in his Redbird career and has been touted by multiple coaches as an NFL prospect at his specialty. After beginning his career as a walk-on, Chris was awarded an athletic scholarship this past season. Highland was member of the Redbird team which reached the FCS quarterfinals in 2012. Also a director with the student news station, Highland is headed for a career in sports broadcasting and can regularly be heard calling ISU basketball games. He credits Knocker coach Todd Eades with introducing him to long snapping. ISU’s Highland Preseason All-American
Congratulations to former Knockers Jake Baughman and John Rave on being part of Central Catholic’s 2A State Championship Basketball team. Jake and John were members of a Knocker team that went undefeated in each of their final three campaigns and have continued their athletic success into high school across multiple sports. John was named CCHS baseball’s MVP this Spring and is the first sophomore to ever take home that honor. Jake will compete for the starting quarterback and free safety positions this Fall with the Saints football program.
